Hmong New Year

I've been going to the Hmong New Year ever since I was a little kid. I remember every early Friday morning, my mom would wake my sisters, brothers and myself up very early to wear Hmong clothes. It was a pain in the butt trying to wake up early and trying on the Hmong clothes.

My mom would usually spend more time with the girls because the girls clothes was more time consuming. Another reason was because there were four girls that my mom had to fix the clothing. Girl clothing for Hmong clothes need a lot more time than the boy clothes.

As for the boys, there were three of us. Myself as being the youngest of all my sibilings. I was the last one to be helped. I would have to wait for the girls to be done and when the girls was done, I would had to wait for my two older brothers. When it was my turn, it was pretty quick. I just had to put on a white dress shirt, black dress pants, Hmong vest, and the Hmong coins. It was as simple as that.

Last year was my last time wearing Hmong clothes. I feel a little bit too old to wear them now. I know that you're never too old for anything but for me, I think I need a break on the Hmong clothes. It was nice not wearing it because I didn't need to go back home and change, then come back to the New Year. It was really annoying.

This year, I did not go to New Year at all. Well, I went on Saturday to help serve food but that was it only. When I was done I went to my girlfriend's house and watch Iron Man 2. Hmong New Year lately haven't been the same ever since they changed it to North High. I guess the envirnment wasn't the same.

In the end of this, I'm not going to lie. I do miss the old days where my mom would wake everybody up and put Hmong clothes on us. It just that nice and warm feeling that feels awesome. I will always remember those good old days. When I have kids, I'm probably going to do the same to them too. So when they grow up they will remember like how I remembered.
