On October 29, 2011, two top walterweight contenders; B.J. Penn and Nick Diaz was highlighted in the main event to fight each other in UFC 137. It was one card to watch because two big named fighters are stepping in the same octagon and are facing each other to see who is the better fighter on that night. If B.J. Penn or Nick Diaz win on that night would have most likely to get a chance to fight for the walterweight champion. It was a good fight and Nick Diaz pulled out the victory in the end. He was the better fighter on that night.
It was pretty disappointing to see B.J. Penn lose on that night. I was cheering for Penn to win that fight against Diaz. Also, I was cheering for Penn because he is one of my favorite fighter to watch in the octagon. It was heartbreaking to see Penn getting picked apart by Diaz. To see one of my favorite fighter to lose to a fighter I also I didn't like that much was very disrupting.
Both of them put up a good fight but I personaly believe Diaz proformed a whole lot better than Penn. As much as it hurt me to say this but he did. Diaz picked him apart round by round. Also Diaz being the taller and having the longer reach made it very difficult for Penn to engaged. With Diaz using his long reach and landing the more and cleaner shots, he won with a fashonable unanimous decision.
I believed Penn could had won the fight. In my eyes, Penn could had won the fight if he had a better cardio. Even in my other post, I would criticize his cardio because that's all he lacks. In the first round he fought Diaz, he looked really good with his boxing. He was out boxing Diaz and was countering Diaz with clean and beautiful punches to the head. By the second and third round, Penn was gassed out and Diaz took advantage of that.
It showed in the first round that Penn was winning the fight because he wasn't gassed. Penn is a very talented fighter but talent can take you so far. He relies on his talent too much. Now if you throw in hard work with talent, that can take you forever. It was that one thing that could had made Penn that winner that night and it was cardio which that is what he lacks the most.
